Vet's review of our raw dog food recipe

Today I prepared the Healthy Active Pet Raw dog food chicken recipe for my two dogs, Kitu and Dakota. This recipe is specifically designed to aid any digestive issues, promote healthy bowel movements, and reduce gassiness.

Where I live, it was difficult to source duck gizzards, and so I replaced them with chicken gizzards (which have the same nutritional benefit).

There are several advantages to the choice of ingredients in this raw dog food recipe.

Namely using chicken as the primary source of protein. Chicken is readily available, easy to source, and is usually significantly more affordable than other meats – giving it a high convenience factor.

Aside from convenience, chicken is also a lean meat, meaning it has a low-fat content. This makes it a great choice for those pets who require low-fat diets.

Some examples of conditions which benefit from a low-fat diet include: gastrointestinal disturbances, inflammatory bowel disease, chronic diarrhoea, pancreatitis and obesity.

The final bonus is that it’s highly palatable, so the chances are your canine friend is going to relish it.

Again, I was impressed with how the raw dog food recipe ensures to include small portions of other ingredients (spinach, blueberries, kelp powder and vitamin E) to create a balanced meal, and to guarantee that our pets will gain the appropriate amounts of vitamins, minerals, amino-acids and anti-oxidants for long term health.

Two of the other meat sources that feature are sardines and beef liver.

Both packed with nutritional perks. My dogs love sardines, so they were even more excited about their dinner once they got a whiff of them.

The raw dog food recipe was quick and easy to prepare, and the dogs loved being part of the preparations.

Kitu could barely control his drooling as he watched. Preparing and making it with them was fun and stimulating for all of us.

However, exercising patience while they watched all their delicious food being prepared was a little more difficult!

They both happily gobbled up their colourful dish, and crunching on the chicken necks was a firm favourite.

Despite being the ideal meal choice for those of us who have pets with sensitive stomachs (or other related gastrointestinal issues), it is still constructed in a way that ensures wholesome nutritional balance for dogs of all shapes and sizes.
