Vet nurse shares 7 tips for managing dog allergies

Hi, I'm Aurora, a canine rehab vet nurse with years of experience in veterinary care.

Throughout my career, I often encountered dogs with dog allergies and sensitive stomachs, usually placed on prescription diets without understanding the root cause of their issues.

The more research I did, the more I realised that feeding a whole food diet (or known as a raw food diet for dogs) without fillers seemed like the right approach for dogs with dog allergies.

Many of the dogs I work with, both my own and those in canine rehabilitation and preventative care sessions, have or are predisposed to orthopedic issues.

As I delved deeper into the subject, I discovered that diets full of inflammatory foods such as grains and processed fillers were not suitable for these dogs with allergies.

I wanted to reduce pain and inflammation through a raw food diet for dogs, and my research led me to two amazing brands that transformed my perspective: Healthy Active Pet and The Saltiest Dog.

These brands have been instrumental in educating both pet owners and veterinary professionals like myself.

They've simplified raw feeding for dogs and demystified the process.

My top 7 tips for dogs with dog allergies

  1. Research: Educate yourself about the benefits of a whole food diet for pets and you can see over 80 raw feeding recipes for dogs at Healthy Active Pet.
  2. Start Simple: Begin with basic, easily digestible ingredients.
  3. Monitor Health: Keep an eye on your pet’s health and adjust the diet as needed.
  4. Consult Professionals: Don’t hesitate to seek advice from vets or pet nutrition experts.
  5. Use high-quality, natural ingredients free from fillers and artificial additives.
  6. Incorporate a variety of proteins and vegetables for balanced nutrition.
  7. Gradually transition your pet to a raw diet to avoid digestive upset.

Switching to raw feeding has not only improved my dogs' health but also enhanced the well-being of many dogs I work with.

I’m grateful to Healthy Active Pet and The Saltiest Dog for their guidance and educational content, which has made this journey much easier and more rewarding.
