Vet nurse shares why she feeds a raw diet for dogs
Hi, I'm Aurora, a vet nurse with years of experience in veterinary care and I wanted to share why I choose to feed a raw diet for dogs
Throughout my career, I often encountered pets with allergies and sensitive stomachs, usually placed on prescription diets without understanding the root cause of their issues.
The more research I did, the more I realised that feeding a whole food diet (or a raw diet for dogs) without fillers seemed like the right approach.
Many of the dogs I work with, both my own and those in canine rehabilitation and preventative care sessions, have or are predisposed to orthopedic issues.
As I delved deeper into the subject, I discovered that diets full of inflammatory foods such as grains and processed fillers were not suitable for these dogs.
I wanted to reduce pain and inflammation through diet, and my research led me to two amazing brands that transformed my perspective: Healthy Active Pet and The Saltiest Dog.
Healthy Active Pet provide amazing raw dog food recipes and also amazing freeze dried dog food that my dogs love!
And the Saltiest Dog is a North Melbourne based delivery service delivering raw food.
These brands have been instrumental in educating both pet owners and veterinary professionals like myself. They've simplified raw feeding and demystified the process.
Advice for Others:
- Research: Educate yourself about the benefits of a whole food diet for pets.
- Start Simple: Begin with basic, easily digestible ingredients.
- Monitor Health: Keep an eye on your pet’s health and adjust the diet as needed.
- Consult Professionals: Don’t hesitate to seek advice from Holistic or Integrative vets or pet nutrition experts.
Tips:
- Use high-quality, natural ingredients free from fillers and artificial additives.
- Incorporate a variety of proteins and vegetables for balanced nutrition.
- Gradually transition your pet to a raw diet to avoid digestive upset.
Switching to raw feeding has not only improved my dogs' health but also enhanced the well-being of many dogs I work with.
